Change: Vulnerably Strong

Change is a campaign project to raise awareness about the importance of mental health within Asian communities, helping people within the Asian community to understand that vulnerability is not a weakness, but a strength, and normalise showing vulnerability in front of others.

Mental health has always been a taboo or a topic that has been ignored and taken lightly within the Asian community. Most Asians fear being thought of as weak or the odd one out for having issues with mental health. The lack of awareness and misconceptions about mental illness is one of the main challenges in combating the issue. It is estimated that only 20% of Malaysians with a mental disorder will access professional care, with social stigma a major explanatory factor for this. Shame and embarrassment force many people in the community to struggle in silence and avoid seeking help. Hence this project aims to bring this topic to light to raise awareness, and normalise talking about your own vulnerabilities within the Asian community.

The knot in the logo is a reference to the word 心结 ( xīn jié) in Chinese, which it’s direct translation is a knot in a heart, meaning a knot in the heart that cannot be solved is something that cannot be let go, an issue that weighs heavily on one's mind.
